About Apex Performance Tuning

A specialist workshop for European and performance cars.Wantirna South, Melbourne.

Apex Performance Tuning has been trading since 2020 from Unit 4/6 Woodbine Court, Wantirna South VIC 3152. We are not a dealership. We are the specialist alternative to one — servicing, advanced diagnostics, complex mechanical repair, performance calibration and engineering compliance handled by the same team, on the same site, for the same car.

Most workshops do one of those things. The reason customers drive across Melbourne to us is that the car does not have to move between four businesses to get properly sorted.

Who works on your car

Jay

Director · Calibration & performance

Fourteen years in the industry. Jay leads the performance side of the workshop — ECU and TCU calibration, staged builds, hardware specification and pre-tune health checks. If you have booked a tune with Apex, Jay is the person who decides what the car needs before a single file is written, and who signs off the result.

Phil

Customer service · End-to-end experience

Ten years looking after customers. Phil is your contact from the first call through to collection — he walks you through the inspection findings, explains the options, coordinates the work, and keeps you updated while the car is on the workshop floor. No service advisor relaying messages from a technician you never meet.

Mat B

Head technician · Workshop floor

Mat B runs the workshop floor and handles every vehicle that comes through the hoist. Log book servicing, diagnostic fault-finding, health checks and the complex repair work — timing chains, cooling systems, DSG work and driveline jobs all come across his bench.

You deal with the people doing the work. Phil keeps you informed and Mat B looks after the car — no service advisor relaying a message from a technician you never meet.

Workshop capability

What we actually have on site and use daily — no claims we cannot back up in the workshop.

Factory-level diagnostic software

ISTA for BMW, ODIS for the VW/Audi group, Xentry for Mercedes-Benz and PIWIS for Porsche. Coding, adaptations, live data and guided fault-finding — not a generic OBD reader guessing at a fault code.

Log book servicing that protects warranty

Manufacturer intervals, manufacturer-spec fluids, OEM or genuine filters, and a completed service and inspection sheet with photo and video evidence and an itemised invoice. Your new-car warranty is protected under Australian Consumer Law.

Complex mechanical repair

Timing chains and guides, DSG and mechatronic work, cooling system rebuilds, rod bearing renewal on the S65 M3, differential and driveline repair — the jobs general workshops refer out.

Calibration and performance

MHD, bootmod3, COBB and HP Tuners flashing, plus custom calibration. Dyno testing available through trusted facilities when a build requires validation.

Engineering and compliance knowledge

Import compliance and modified-vehicle certification pathways in Victoria, handled end to end so a modified car is road-legal, not just fast.

Documented workmanship

Photo and video inspection on service, findings explained in plain language, and a written quote before anything is disassembled.

How we work

Diagnose before you replace.

Most expensive repairs we see started as a guess at another workshop. We measure first — live data, pressure and adaptation values, physical inspection — then quote on what is actually wrong. If the diagnosis takes longer, it takes longer.

The right part for the platform.

Genuine or OEM-equivalent where it belongs, quality aftermarket where it genuinely outperforms the factory item. We will tell you which is which and why, including where an updated superseded part solves a known factory weakness.

Enthusiast-owned, enthusiast-run.

We drive and modify the same cars we work on. That matters when you are describing a noise, a shift feel or a fuelling issue — you are talking to people who understand the platform, not reading a symptom into a script.
