These are the families we work with most often. Each has its own thermal behaviour, known weak points and sensible targets, which is why the assessment comes before the quote.

  • M177 / M178 4.0 twin-turbo V8

    C63, E63, GLC63, AMG GT. The strongest response of the range. Cooling margin, plug condition and fuel quality decide what is realistic — heat management matters more than the file.

  • M139 2.0 turbo

    A45, A45 S, CLA45. The most powerful production four-cylinder ever made, already highly strung from the factory — calibration is conservative and thermal behaviour is logged closely.

  • M276 3.0 twin-turbo V6

    C43, E43, GLC43 and related models. A meaningful mid-range improvement with sensible targets on healthy hardware.

  • M256 3.0 turbo inline-six

    53-series cars with EQ Boost. Assessed individually by model year and control-unit status.

  • M157 5.5 twin-turbo V8

    Previous-generation 63 models. A mature platform with a well-understood progression; mechanical condition reviewed first.

Stage language, and what it actually means

Owners usually arrive asking for a stage. It is a useful shorthand, but it describes hardware rather than a guaranteed outcome: a first-step calibration assumes healthy stock hardware, and later steps assume downpipe, intake, cooling or plug work alongside the file.

What actually decides the result is your fuel, the health of the engine, ambient temperature and how the car is used. An AMG V8 with marginal cooling or a tired plug set should be fixed before it is calibrated — and we will tell you that rather than flash over it.

So we quote the work, not a badge: assessment, the calibration your car can genuinely support, and any hardware required to get there — each line itemised in writing against the VIN.

Which Mercedes and AMG engines can Apex calibrate?+

The M177 and M178 4.0 twin-turbo V8 (C63, E63, GLC63, AMG GT), M139 2.0 (A45, CLA45), M276 3.0 V6 (43-series), M256 inline-six (53-series) and the earlier M157 5.5 V8. Availability depends on model year and control-unit status, confirmed from your VIN before quoting.

Is a tune safe for my AMG?+

A conservative calibration on a mechanically healthy car, written for the fuel you actually run and verified in data logs, is a well-understood change. The risk comes from tuning a car with existing faults, tired plugs or marginal cooling — which is why we assess and log first.

Can the AMG transmission be calibrated?+

On supported AMG Speedshift MCT and TCT vehicles, yes. Transmission calibration covers shift speed, firmness and clamping behaviour, is quoted separately from engine calibration, and is always optional.

Will heat be a problem in summer?+

Heat management is the core of how we approach AMG calibration. We log temperatures during assessment and set targets that hold in hot traffic, rather than tuning to a single cool-morning pull.

Is the original calibration retained?+

Yes. The stock file is retained, so the vehicle can be returned to standard calibration where that is required — for a dealership visit, for example.

What information do you need before quoting?+

Model, year and VIN, transmission type, existing modifications, the fuel you intend to run and how the car is used. We then scan on XENTRY, inspect the car and record a baseline log before confirming a written package.

Can you service my Mercedes as well?+

Yes. Scheduled servicing, transmission and brake fluid, diagnostics and mechanical repairs are all carried out in the same workshop that holds your calibration file.

Is dyno testing available?+
