Inside the Mercedes-AMG C63.
The W204 C63 (M156 6.2 V8) is one of the last great naturally-aspirated AMG V8s. It also has a well-documented cam-lobe wear issue and, on some builds, head-bolt corrosion. Every W204 M156 through the workshop is inspected for both at service. If wear is present, we quote head work openly — not deferred to sell later services. The engine is worth saving; deferred maintenance kills it.
The W205 C63 introduced M177 4.0 V8 biturbo — hot-V turbo placement, MCT/9G-tronic transmission (depending on year). Different maintenance profile entirely — turbo oil-feed lines, expansion tank, coolant hoses all get checked every service. Non-optional on a hard-worked biturbo V8.
Both generations respond very well to flash tuning. M156 gets meaningful gains from Stage 1 headers + tune; M177 pushes past 600 hp on stock hardware with correct calibration. Warranty is a real conversation on the newer W205. We're honest about what a dealer will and won't detect.
