Inside the BMW M2.
The F87 M2 arrived with N55 — arguably the best inline-six BMW made until B58 turned up. The M2 Competition upgrade to S55 (from the F80/F82 M3/M4) transformed the car and introduced the same charge-pipe weak point as its bigger siblings. We fit aluminium charge pipes as a preventive job on any S55 that comes in for tuning.
The G87 M2 (current) uses the S58 — same base engine as G80/G82 M3/M4 Competition. Different chassis, different exhaust, but the same maintenance profile. ZF 8HP eight-speed on G87 replaces the M-DCT of the F87 — fluid on interval, correct spec, factory procedure.
Every M2 through the workshop gets a full ISTA scan first, expansion tank inspection, brake fluid check (every 2 years on any M-car, no exception), and coolant condition check. Then we quote the actual service. The M-division cars are hard-worked machines even when driven gently — the maintenance profile reflects that.
