Golf GTI and Golf R make up the bulk of the Volkswagen work here — Mk5 through Mk8, plus Polo GTI, Tiguan, Passat and Amarok. The EA888 four-cylinder is the most-serviced engine in the workshop, and each generation has its own timing chain, tensioner and water-pump story with its own correct repair path.

DSG work is a core competency: DQ250, DQ381, DQ500 and the dry DQ200. Fluid and internal filter on interval, correct fill procedure, mechatronic diagnosed properly before anyone talks about replacement.

ODIS Service and Engineering — the dealer-level VW scan platform — is on every diagnostic visit. Coding, adaptations, firmware updates and live-data logging done properly, not with a cheap OBD reader.

The workshop is at Unit 4/6 Woodbine Court, Wantirna South VIC 3152 — about 32 minutes from St Kilda (3182) depending on traffic. St Kilda sits alongside Elwood, Windsor, Balaclava in the 3182 catchment, and owners from all of them use the workshop.

Most St Kilda owners book a day ahead, drop the car in the morning and arrange their own transport onward; there is a customer area if you would rather wait. Pickup and drop-off is available by prior arrangement, subject to location and availability — we do not offer loan cars.

Routine servicing is usually same-day. Larger work — transmission servicing, timing-system repairs, cooling repairs, intake cleaning or turbo work — is quoted with a realistic in-and-out timeline before we start, so you can plan around it.

Every Volkswagen service includes a proper multi-point inspection — not a tickbox sheet. These are the platform-specific items we look at as a matter of course, photographed on the hoist and quoted only if action is genuinely needed:

• Timing chain tensioner (EA888 gen2)

  Known failure item. Updated-revision tensioner and chain fitted proactively around 100–150k km.

• Water pump / thermostat housing (gen3)

  Plastic housing weeps around 100k km. Updated revision fitted, not a like-for-like plastic repeat.

• Carbon buildup (direct injection)

  Walnut blasting around 80–120k km restores cold-start behaviour, throttle response and economy.

• DSG fluid (DQ250, DQ381, DQ500)

  60k km interval regardless of 'lifetime' claims — the difference between a healthy DSG and a mechatronic failure.

• PCV / intake manifold

  Common EA888 rough-idle and boost-leak source. Diagnosed in live data, replaced with updated parts.

• Haldex service (Golf R, 4Motion)

  Haldex oil and filter on interval — skipped by most workshops, and the reason rear drive goes lazy.

APR, COBB, MRC, 034 and custom calibration — Stage 1 on an EA888 gen3 Golf R or GTI typically returns strong mid-range gains on 98 or E-blend. Every tune is datalogged for knock, trims, boost and timing before you leave, with the stock file backed up.

TCU tuning on DQ250, DQ381 and DQ500 is done in sync with the engine calibration — higher launch RPM, faster shifts, torque limiter matched. Dry DQ200 gearboxes are left as designed.

Drop the car in the morning, or book it a few days ahead. On arrival we do a full Xentry scan first — every module, stored and pending faults — before any spanner touches the car. You leave with a stamped log book (where applicable), a completed service and inspection sheet, and a plain-English summary of what we did and what to expect at the next interval.
