How long does a BMW water pump last?+
Most electric pumps are a wear item well before 150k km, and heat cycles matter more than distance. If yours is original and high-km, it's worth checking before it strands you.
Should the thermostat be replaced at the same time?+
Usually yes on the engines where access overlaps — doing both in one visit avoids paying the same labour twice.
My BMW says drive moderately — can I keep driving?+
No. That message means the cooling system isn't controlling temperature. Stop, let it cool, and get it recovered or booked in immediately — overheating a BMW alloy head is far more expensive than a pump.
