Is BMW timing chain rattle urgent?+
Treat it as urgent. A stretched chain or failed guide can jump timing and destroy the engine. Get it scanned and inspected quickly — the difference between a chain job and a new engine is usually time.
How do I know if it's the chain or VANOS?+
Live data on ISTA. Cam correlation deviation and VANOS adaptation values separate the two, and we listen with a stethoscope with the engine at temperature before committing.
